A drive-in movie theatre is an outdoor cinema where people can watch films from the comfort and privicy of their own vehicles, rather than sat in a chair at a traditional cinema. The screen can be anything, ranging from a simple brick wall painted white, to a complex, purpose built, steel structure with a large screen space added. As the setting for drive-in movies is outdoors, the films are usually shown in the evenings or at night, when its dark enough to view the screens properly.
The sound for the films was originally supplied by individual speakers, hung from the window of each car, which would be attached by a wire. These days the technology has changed and the sound is now transmitted to the car radios by broadcasting through a pre-defined station. This allows people to hear the films in crystal clear, stereo rather than the old monaural speaker way. |
